This exceptionally soft, yet durable calfskin gets its natural and fashionable colors from the rare and complex aniline dyeing process. This type of dyeing is characterized by the fact that the dye penetrates deeply into the leather rather than being simply applied on top. This preserves the leather's surface structure, making each product unique in its quality.
The leather for the F. Hammann toiletry and cosmetic bags is tanned in Santa Croce near Florence, Italy, using the finest Alpine hides. This process is carried out without the addition of chromium salts in closed-loop processes, significantly exceeding the latest EU environmental standards. The leather is a byproduct of the local industry—no animal is used exclusively for its leather.
